The general requirements for the air filter ;is high efficiency filtration, low air resistance, long maintenance cycles and service life. 
1, high efficiency filtration 
The filtration efficiency of the air filter assembly is the unit of time, the amount of dust which is stopped into air by the air filter with the air ratio of the amount of dust. 
 According to the information, the air cleaner filter efficiency generally take η = 99.5% or more. To ensure that there is sufficient air cleaner filter efficiency, one is that, air filter seals to be strict; Second, high filtration precision air filter, the higher filtering accuracy, the higher the efficiency of filtration. 
2, the air filter sealing 
First paper and end caps, end caps and seals and other should be bonded firmly, using the term should not be cracking, degumming; Second, the paper is not broken easily; Third, filter in the filter assembly to be fastened on, should not occur flow short circuit. 
3, air filter filtration 
Determine the accuracy of the air cleaner, we must first understand the different sizes of particles on the friction in the dismantling of the engine, find out the engine cylinder liners, piston rings are the most serious hazards abrasive wear parts. 
Dust particles floating should be around about 1 ~ 50um, can be seen from Figure 1, small particles on rings will not have a huge impact, as 1um these particles can be contained in the friction surface free floating oil film does not have an impact, engine components varying forms of exercise, changes in complex bearing oil film formation conditions are different, the minimum oil film thickness up to 5um, while the camshaft film insufficient 1um, reciprocating piston boundary lubrication conditions are still difficult to establish film. 
 1um below air filter can be effectively prevented, although the accuracy abrasion generated, but this precision filter poor ventilation, air easily clogged filter will shorten its life, increasing frequency of cleaning the filter, the cost is high. The filtration precision value is too large, which would in turn harmful to the diameter of the solid particles directly into the engine, so the accuracy of air filter should  be chosen to take the cost and wear curves comprehensive economic optimum point, usually 4 ~ 7um.
